Flynn's Magic Arm

This is Flynn Dielle, a character from the roleplaying book Strategists & Tacticians by Ryan Costello Jr. for 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming. The line work was done using a Staedtler Mars Graphic 3000 Duo brush pen, and the colour was done in Photoshop CS3.

I wasn't actually contracted to do this artwork, but I just liked the character of Flynn Dielle so much that I decided to feature him in a bit of original artwork. In Ryan's original description of Flynn, he told me to add something magical to him, something that makes him look like he's not a stranger to flinging the occasional fireball. I couldn't think of anything so, in desperation, I slapped some tribal-looking tattoos on his arm and called it a day. Since then, however, I became curious as to how those tattoos worked. Or at least what they looked like while Flynn was doing magic. This picture is the result.

I'm still not completely happy with the results. His hair could use some work, and his legs are pretty slap-dash. I'm super-happy with his hand and arm, though, and they're the focus of the picture, so that's alright. I think that's the best hand I've ever drawn, and I like the glowing/smoking effect on the tattoos, I think that worked out rather well.

And, yeah, I just recycled the thug from the previous work. Poor guy.
